THE NEXT BIG THING – LITTLE PARIS ON THE ELBE
First a fishing village, then an industrial area and today a diverse, trendy district. Ottensen’s special charm lies in its mix of industrial lofts and impressive villas; green areas and urban spaces; student pubs and haute cuisine, which has made it one of Hamburg’s most popular residential areas.
Covering an area of less than three square kilometres, this up-and-coming district offers a lively bar and restaurant scene combined with a diverse range of opportunities to enjoy art and culture, go shopping, get involved in sports, unwind or simply take a stroll along its streets.
You could be forgiven for thinking that the French cuisine at the “Petit Amour” restaurant, which has a Michelin star, is the reason why Ottensen’s residents call the district “Little Paris”, but you’d be wrong. It is actually this diverse mix of offerings that has earned it the affectionate nickname. That said, we can certainly recommend a visit to the restaurant on Spritzenplatz square!

KEEPING IT COOL
IN DOWNTOWN HAMBURG
The gateway to the world
Local culture and art galleries. Musicals and the Millerntor stadium. Smart suits and anoraks. Upper class and underground. The Speicherstadt and playgrounds. Designer fashion and cheap beer. The new HafenCity district and Hagenbeck’s zoo. Green parks and the Große Freiheit.
Hamburg is a metropolis packed full of highlights and history but still manages to retain its north German composure. So it will come as no surprise that Germany’s second largest city is continuing to grow and regularly achieves high placings in the rankings for the world’s most liveable cities.
The gateway to the world is the perfect place to drop anchor if you love the variety and flair of a big city but also like being able to retreat to a quiet place and enjoy life for what it ultimately is – one big work of art or, in German, a KunstWerk.

Ensemble Kolbenhöfe
An urban district
that brings
people together
The KunstWerk complex is part of the “Kolbenhöfe” urban development project. The construction project in Hamburg-Ottensen is based on a holistic concept that takes both the historical value of the former industrial site and the differing needs of future tenants and owners into consideration.
The Kolbenhöfe project not only includes a total of 675 freehold and rental apartments – of which around one third have been subsidised – but also space for local artisans, small traders and offices.
The array of childcare centres, playgrounds and parks in the district also make the KunstWerk particularly interesting for families. A wide range of shopping amenities cover every daily need, while the central square provides the perfect location for events and farmers’ markets. In addition to this, the numerous restaurants and cafés in the surrounding area are inviting places to spend time.
